Mortepumpen Restaurant, Serving Tray From Hotel Atlantic Stavanger, Morte Pump 1950's,
Measures 9” round
Comes with wall hanger
The serving platter has a motif from the restaurant Mortepumpen (waterpost) in Olav V's gate in Stavanger where the Radisson SAS Atlantic Hotel is located, and probably dates from the 1950s.
The board bears some wear from use and has some superficial scratches and a small hole, but the subject is just as fine and whole (sold as shown in pictures).
The mortar pump was established on December 8, 1955. The name was given to the restaurant from Stavanger's only public water pump, which stood in the outlet middle of the square until 1866. The interior was distinctive, with copies of old Stavanger house facades in a third size. A hand pump from Jæren was purchased which was placed at an aquarium with live fish. The water was pumped directly from Vågen via a long pipeline. The restaurant was closed on 1 January 2009, but the hotel has now reopened the restaurant
